Talkdemonic - Ruins (2011)

Talkdemonic's fourth effort. Possibly my album of the year 2011, this album is a lot harsher than their previous releases but still manages to stay very pretty. From buzzing analog synths and shrieking strings to bleeps and acoustic guitars and drones. A beautiful mix of acoustic and electronic instruments.

Autolux - Transit, Transit (2010)

Autolux's long awaited follow up to their stellar debut. This album adds a bit to their sound. More acoustic guitars, some piano, samples, mellotron, synths and drum machines but their sound is still there. Not as immediate as their debut but it grows on you, trust me.

Autolux - Future Perfect (2004)

Amazing debut album by one of my favourite bands. Fantastic song writing, effeminate boy/girl vocals, creative drumming, great guitar/bass interplay and bits of toy piano. Features a former member of Failure on guitar.

Centaur - In Streams (2002)

The sole album by Centaur, a band formed in 2000 by Hum's frontman Matt Talbott along with Derek Niedrignhaus of Castor and Jim Kelly of Sixteen Tons. Inevitably, this album is going to be compared to Hum and much of the material rivals the quality of the work Talbott did with Hum.

Z-Rock Hawaii - Z-Rock Hawaii (1996)

Collaboration between Ween and Japanese experimental noise-rockers Boredoms. An interesting mixture of Ween's off-kilter humour and Yamantaka Eye's unmistakable noisy style, and a pretty enjoyable listen overall.

Boris - Heavy Rocks (2002)

Fourth album by the incredible Boris. Unlike previous albums, which focused on a drone-doom style, this album is straight up stoner rock/metal. The title is very accurate.

Nick Drake - Pink Moon (1971)

The third and final album by Nick Drake, which was impressively recorded in less than two days. His only album that is completely solo. A depressing, beautiful listen, and one of the best folk albums ever made. A masterpiece.

World's End Girlfriend - Seven Idiots (2010)

World's End Girlfriend's most recent album. According to Katsuhiko Maeda, he wrote complete vocal tracks for each song first, then filled them in with instrumentation. Afterwards, he removed the vocals and continued to mix until each song was completed. Very interesting. I would call it Maeda's best to date.

Brian Eno - Discreet Music (1975)

"I was trying to make a piece that could be listened to and yet could be ignored... perhaps in the spirit of Satie who wanted to make music that could 'mingle with the sound of the knives and forks at dinner.'" - Brian Eno.

The first track of this album is ambient. The latter three are variations of Pachelbel's Canon in D Major.

Boris - Japanese Heavy Rock Hits Vol. 1-4 (2009)

In 2009 Experimental trio Boris released three limited edition 7" singles (and a special fourth for those who pre-ordered) of new material. This is a great batch of songs and they can be hard to come by since they were only released on vinyl. New versions of most of these songs will be released later this year on Boris' new album. Enjoy.

Cubesato - Cubicroom (2009)

Braids - Set Pieces EP (2008)

This band has been getting a lot more attention lately. This is their debut EP, originally released under their old name, "The Neighborhood Council". Delayed and reverby guitars and synths, strange waily vocals. They get a lot of comparisons to Animal Collective which I understand. Enjoy.

Mono - You Are There (2006)

Epic in the proper sense of the word. Very beautiful, dramatic and even almost cinematic. This is classical music with guitars. Some would argue that's what post rock is, but it doesn't really matter. Very good.

Silversun Pickups - Pikul (2005)

Silversun Pickups' debut EP. Slower guitar based songs with some soft noise. There is some definite shoegaze influence but I wouldn't go so far as to call Silversun Pickups a shoegaze band. Enjoyable listen if you're into 90's alternative rock.
